TRANSFIGURE FILMS ANNOUNCES NEW SLASHER HORROR FILM “CUTS” FROM WRITER-DIRECTOR DALLAS HARVEY

The upcoming horror film will combine a terrifying new masked killer with extensive in-camera practical effects.

VANCOUVER, BC — Transfigure Films has officially wrapped principal photography on CUTS, an atmospheric new slasher short written and directed by genre filmmaker Dallas Harvey. The project, which is currently in post-production, is also being actively developed as a concept feature-length film.

Conceived as a brutal, visceral throwback to the golden age of '80s and '90s slasher cinema, CUTS showcases Harvey’s uncompromising commitment to bringing in-camera practical effects back to the forefront of modern horror.

Set against the dark backdrop of Halloween night, the film follows a tight-knit group of friends whose evening takes a fatal turn when they cross paths with a silent, imposing figure wearing a cracked clown mask, a heavy butcher’s apron, and wielding a bloodied sledgehammer. What begins as an apparently elaborate holiday prank rapidly devolves into a relentless, claustrophobic fight for survival as the killer begins executing his targets with surgical precision.

With the chilling tagline “There’s No Clean Exit,” Harvey’s directorial vision centers on building mounting suspense, oppressive atmosphere, and tangible physical terror. Rather than relying on modern digital CGI, the production was built ground-up around physical filmmaking—utilizing intricate prosthetic work, custom blood rigs, and physical character performances executed entirely in front of the lens.

Practical Effects at the Heart of the Production

"CUTS is being created for horror audiences who miss the raw, tangible physicality of classic slasher movies," says Harvey. "We want the viewer to feel every single impact and shock. My goal was to build an immersive, terrifying experience where the killer, the weapons he uses, and the physical consequences all truly existed in the space with the actors. You simply cannot replicate that unpredictability and texture with a CGI effect."

Beyond its body count and choreographed attack sequences, Harvey’s script delves into a deeper, more sinister mythology surrounding its masked antagonist—laying the narrative groundwork for the larger feature expansion.

Coming to Film Festivals

Following post-production, Transfigure Films plans to bring CUTS to horror and genre film festivals, where audiences will receive their first look at the new masked killer.

Additional announcements regarding the cast, production team, festival screenings, trailer and release plans will be revealed as the film moves forward.
